I understand the opinion exists that voting for third parties is a "throwaway vote," but why does that sentiment exist when both parties are in cahoots most of the time? For example, with a popular D president and massive D majorities in the House and Senate, along with current extremely high levels of attention being paid to energy policy right now, why would a D say this with regards to a new energy bill under construction... “We believe we have compromised significantly, and we’re prepared to compromise further."

If a third party is the only one who will represent the people instead of corporations, then a third party will get my vote.

Griffin wants to keep us arkies more in line with Chinese and Mexican labor costs.
Why not fight for something like a worldwide minimum wage?

Nah, we can't have that because it messes with corporate profits and that's the only thing those on the right-wing care about.

I would love to ride the bus it takes too long between buses and as you mentioned, the transfer coordination is horrible.
I don't live far from my work but if I were to take the bus, it would be an hour long ordeal versus 10-15 minutes in my car.
I would love to see us invest more in public transportation in central Arkansas but I don't see it happening for quite some time.
People here think adding more freeway lanes and lanes to the roads will somehow ease congestion. Trust me, it won't.
We need to invest more in bike lanes and public transportation.

Agreed. It will be watered down to the point of near impotence thanks to the GOP and their lapdogs in the Democratic party. Tighter regulations are the key. Too big to fail is a problem, but the real issue is the unscrupulous behavior.

Word on the street is that the Chris Dodd package is to financial reform what the recently passed health care legislation was to private for-profit health insurance companies. In other words, not real reform at all. What say you?

Paul Krugman has been writing about this lately. I used to think capping the size of banks would fix the problem, until I read his infinitely more learned opinion that that would spread out but not prevent the problem, as in the S&L crisis in the 80's.

Here's Krugman on the topic: "Let me be clear: I would very much like to limit the size of financial institutions, mainly for political economy reasons: it’s a real problem when these institutions start regulating the government rather than the other way around. But shrinking the banks is not a solution to the crisis problem..."
